my story
I find this section the hardest to write. Which, given my line of work, might not be the most reassuring thing to say.
Because Goodfellas is one of my favorite movies, I should start saying that, as far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a writer. However, much like the gangsters in that film, I didn't always get my way.
In fact, when the time came to go to university, I didn't go to film school. I went to Law school instead, where I double majored in Law and Criminal Science. After that, I started my career as a criminal defense attorney at one of the biggest, most prestigious law firms in Spain.
Despite some obvious perks, like having a lawyer ID with my face on it or getting to wear a fancy black robe from time to time, it just wasn't for me.
And so, after a while I decided to quit to go to film school. The year was 2020. Again, not the most reassuring thing. But I had been ignoring my true vocation for too long at this point.
A new chapter of my life began in London, where I went to grad school at the LSE while also working on set for indie films. Many exciting things happened in London and Covid tried to ruin every single one of them. But between lockdowns and the famous British cold and rain, I wrote the manuscript of my first published novel, Carlota París (more about it in the My Book section).
It was my first long-form piece of original writing, and even though it was a small print, it gave me the confidence to believe that I could really do this. I was, in fact, a writer.
After London came Los Angeles and my Hollywood adventures. You can read all about this in the Mi Trabajo section. For the anecdotal portion of this, suffice to say that I had a film podcast for a while (Et tu, Brute?), that I dabbled in VR and got a journalistic piece published on the cover of the LA Times, and that I briefly worked on a Brazilian TV show produced by Kendrick Lamar.
In the 6 years since I left my steady, corporate job, I've lived in four different countries, I've had all kinds of industry jobs - writer, development executive, book scout, script supervisor, festival reader, and many more - I've met some incredibly talented people and have faced no small amount challenges in our ever-changing, always uncertain industry.
Now, back living in Madrid and working as a writer and book scout, I feel like I'm finally where I belong.
